Since 1839, Christ Church Cathedral has been a witness to downtown Houston through worship, learning and loving service. We are the Cathedral for the Diocese of Texas, which is part of The Episcopal Church.

At the Cathedral, we believe that God is in the midst of the city (Psalm 46:5), and that the Gospel of Jesus Christ proclaims God’s alternative vision for the world. This means that the Cathedral is open and affirming for people of all races, ages, socio-economic statuses, sexual orientations, and gender identities. Whoever you are, and whatever your story, you are welcome to know God and one another here.

We hope that you’ll find inspired preaching, teaching, and worship, and become part of our Cathedral community.

What to Expect

Often named one of Houston’s most beautiful worship spaces, and with a world-class music program in the Anglican choral tradition, worship at Christ Church Cathedral can be a transcendent experience.

Each service on Sunday has a different expression of worship, although great joy and care are taken in each. We worship using The Book of Common Prayer 1979 with contemporary language at 9:00am, traditional language at 11:00am, Spanish at 1:00pm, and a Celtic-inspired worship service at 5:00pm. You can check out our 11, 1 and 5 online.

During COVID, all in-person worshipers must and follow CDC and Episcopal Diocese of Texas COVID safety protocols. See our updated protocols.

First time to worship

After you find a place to park in the Cathedral Garage, exit the garage and cross the street. There will be an officer helping to stop traffic and ensure your safety.

Enter into the cloister area through the hallway and be greeted by our volunteers, who can direct you to the next service where you will be guided into the sanctuary by our ushers. Enjoy some contemplative time before the service starts.

Wondering what to wear? On Sunday mornings, the Cathedral tends to be a dressier place, and most (but not all) worshippers dress in their Sunday best. The Well, our 5:00 service, is a come-as-you-are service, and most worshippers are dressed casually.

Kathy Pfister was called to serve as the Canon Vicar in June of 2020. Prior to her ministry at Christ Church Cathedral, Kathy served The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Austin, Texas, for ten years; first as an associate on the Windsor Campus, and subsequently as the founding Vicar of The Hill, Good Shepherd’s second campus. Before serving the Episcopal church as a priest, Kathy worked as lay youth minister at Trinity Church in New Orleans, and as the Missioner for Youth and Young Adult Ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina.

Kathy was raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, earned her BS in Psychology from The American University in Washington DC, and ultimately landed in Texas to attend Seminary of the Southwest where she received her Masters of Divinity. She recently completed The Deep Calls to Deep fellowship in preaching at Virginia Theological Seminary. Kathy and her husband, Phil, have two nearly grown children, Charles and Camille. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, creating, laughing, and listening to music.

Stewardship and Giving: Support Cathedral Ministries

Generously responding to God’s gifts is a reflection of spirituality and recognition that we are the stewards of his bounty. It is a way of life — something we do day in and day out.

There are many ways to make financial gifts to support the ministries, pastoral care, education, vitality, and growth of Christ Church Cathedral. We are grateful to donors who graciously make one-time gifts, annual pledges, ongoing planned giving, and who find other ways to offer their help forwarding the work of our ministries.
