Children

Children's Ministry

Our Why:

To make a safe space for children and families to build Christian formation into their daily lives so that it becomes the foundation for their identity.

It is our greatest joy to partner with the adults in children’s lives. We want to offer support and encouragement during these uncertain times. The resources listed here are not the only way to continue Christian formation in your homes. We encourage you to do what is best for your family. We will continue to check in with families through our monthly e-newsletter, and other digital and traditional methods of communication. Please contact KariAnn Lessner, Minister for Children and Families with any questions, prayer requests or concerns we can help you with.

Our How:

At the Cathedral, we try to meet each family's needs right where they are, and as their needs change, so do we. We heartily welcome families to bring their children to services. When you register for in person worship, we will have a disposable worship bag ready for you at check in, full of things to use during the service and then take home with you.

Children in our worship services

We welcome children to participate and learn as fully as they are able in services, and we understand their inclinations to stretch, move, and wonder. In our pews, there is room for everyone, no matter how large, small, or wiggly.

As you enter through the main Cathedral entrance, please let one of the Ambassadors of Grace know that your child would like one of our “Grab & GO Worship Bags”. These bags are designed to be used and taken home with you and contain a Children’s service leaflet, coloring crayons, and some quiet toys.

When we hear the sounds of children in church, we will ultimately hear the sounds of church in children.

Zoom Sunday School

September through May at the 10 a.m. Education Hour

All adults who work with children are compliant with "Safeguarding God's Children" through the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.

Zoom Sunday School – Sundays at 10:00 AM

Children ages 3 years – 5th grade

Please register your children for Sunday School to receive the Zoom link.

This weekly offering is a time of story, songs, games, and prayers. Our greatest challenge in being together/apart is connection. We have designed our time on ZOOM to be interactive and fun with breakout rooms intended for the sole purpose of making sure that every kid is seen and heard.

Every attempt to put kids in ZOOM breakout rooms with peers their age is made. If your child has technology fatigue by Sunday mornings… we totally understand. Just turn the ZOOM on and allow them to “listen in” – set them up with some coloring supplies or a bin full of LEGOS.

We really believe that given an opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus – your kids will want to participate too!

KariAnn Lessner was born in Lansing, Michigan, but did most of her growing up in New Mexico. She studied at McMurry University in Abilene with a concentration in Christian education. KariAnn has served in four parishes in the Diocese of Texas since 1997, and currently serves on the Episcopal Diocese of Texas Formation Advisory Board and the Camp Allen Summer Camp Advisory Board.

In the past, she has served as the director of Y.E.S. (a diocesan middle-school retreat), as a convocational representative, and on the youth and children’s ministry assessment team of the diocese. She is also a Safeguarding God’s Children master trainer and directs Session E at Camp Allen. Her husband, Ron, and her daughters, Keatyn and Karsyn, enjoy cooking as a family and epic lip-sync battles in the kitchen. (Spatulas make great microphones!)

Stewardship and Giving: Support Cathedral Ministries

Generously responding to God’s gifts is a reflection of spirituality and recognition that we are the stewards of his bounty. It is a way of life — something we do day in and day out.

There are many ways to make financial gifts to support the ministries, pastoral care, education, vitality, and growth of Christ Church Cathedral. We are grateful to donors who graciously make one-time gifts, annual pledges, ongoing planned giving, and who find other ways to offer their help forwarding the work of our ministries.

Learn more about how you can get involved and support the Cathedral, or offer your time as a volunteer.
