Children

Our Why:

To make a safe space for Children and families to build Christian formation into their daily lives so that it becomes the foundation for their identity.

bbunnamed_739

Our How:

At the Cathedral, we try to meet each family's needs right where they are, and as their needs change, so do we. We heartily welcome families to bring their children to services.

We welcome children to participate and learn as fully as they are able in services, and we understand their inclinations to stretch, move, and wonder. In our pews, there is room for everyone, no matter how large, small, or wiggly.

As you enter through the main Cathedral entrance, please let one of the ushers know that your child would like one of our “Worship Bags.” These bags are designed to be used, returned, and replenished each week. They contain a children’s service leaflet, coloring crayons, and some quiet toys.

We believe when we hear the sounds of children in church, we will ultimately hear the sounds of church in children.

Sunday School

Each Sunday we gather together as a community and grow in our faith through teaching and discussion. September through April at the 10 a.m. Formation Hour.

This weekly offering begins in Golding Chapel for a time of story, songs, games, and prayers. Then children are taken to their classrooms in the Jones building. We really believe that given an opportunity to hear the good news of Jesus - your kids will want to participate too!

Children's Sunday School is a weekly time of Christian formation for children ages 2 years - 5th grade. Learn more about the Cathedral's Children's ministry. Register now.

KariAnn Lessner was born in Lansing, Michigan, but did most of her growing up in New Mexico. She studied at McMurry University in Abilene with a concentration in Christian education. KariAnn has served in four parishes in the Diocese of Texas since 1997, and currently serves on the Episcopal Diocese of Texas Formation Advisory Board and the Camp Allen Summer Camp Advisory Board.

In the past, she has served as the director of Y.E.S. (a diocesan middle-school retreat), as a convocational representative, and on the youth and children’s ministry assessment team of the diocese. She is also a Safeguarding God’s Children master trainer and directs Session E at Camp Allen. Her husband, Ron, and her daughters, Keatyn and Karsyn, enjoy cooking as a family and epic lip-sync battles in the kitchen. (Spatulas make great microphones!)

Stewardship and Giving: Support Cathedral Ministries

Generously responding to God’s gifts is a reflection of spirituality and recognition that we are the stewards of his bounty. It is a way of life — something we do day in and day out.

There are many ways to make financial gifts to support the ministries, pastoral care, education, vitality, and growth of Christ Church Cathedral. We are grateful to donors who graciously make one-time gifts, annual pledges, ongoing planned giving, and who find other ways to offer their help forwarding the work of our ministries.

Learn more about how you can get involved and support the Cathedral, or offer your time as a volunteer.
