Spiritual Writing Workshop - Cameron Dezen Hammon
Sunday, October 24, 2021, 6:00 PM
In collaboration with Brazos Bookstore, Cameron Dezen Hammon, author of This Is My Body: A Memoir of Religious and Romantic Obsession (Lookout Books), offers a workshop on spiritual writing after the Well on Sunday, October 24, 6-8 p.m., Sanders Hall.
Cameron, who teaches Creative Nonfiction and Spiritual Writing in the English Department at Rice University, received the Nonfiction Discovery Prize Winner from Writers’ League of Texas, among other honors; and Kirkus called This Is My Body "a generous and unflinchingly brave memoir about faith, feminism, and freedom.” Her nonfiction has appeared widely in literary journals and periodicals, and she was honored to be included in The Best American Essays 2017. Cameron has taught creative writing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Duke Divinity, Writers in the Schools Houston, Inprint Houston and Hugo House, among other locations.
After the Well service, participants in the workshop will join her to delve into the ways we take part in a spiritual story that connects us to one another, to the Divine as we understand it, and to the natural world in which we live. In this one-time workshop, we will investigate our own spiritual experiences through writing prompts, conversation, and a short reading.
This class is suitable for beginning as well as experienced writers, and no formal workshop experience is necessary. The cost is $20, and participants will receive a journal and a copy of This Is My Body. For more information, contact the Bookstore ([email protected]). If the cost is a hardship, contact Canon Zartman ([email protected]).
