Faith, Service, and Leadership: A Conversation with Secretary of State James A. Baker III
On All Saints 2016, Christ Church Cathedral hosted a panel discussion with former governmental leaders who are also Episcopalian. It was a conversation about faith, leadership, and service to the nation.
Today we reprise that conversation with Houstonian and former Secretary of State James A. Baker III. Secretary Baker is the only person to serve as Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, and White House Chief of Staff. Among myriad other accomplishments, Secretary Baker was instrumental in helping to end the Cold War.
Secretary Baker is also Episcopalian, and his service to the Church is substantial. In 2011-2012, he counseled Bishop Doyle’s Unity in Mission process, whose work charted a course for parishes in the Diocese of Texas to bless the unions of LGBTQ couples.
As was the case with the panel four years ago, on this All Saints Day our conversation is not about partisan politics, but about faith, leadership, and service, with a statesman who strives to love God, the Church, and country. All Saints blessings to you.
