DESCRIPTION:In 2008\, filmmaker Katrina Browne made a stunning discovery: her New England ancestors\, the DeWolf family of Bristol\, Rhode Island\, were the largest slave-trading dynasty in American history. Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North follows Browne and nine of her cousins as they retrace the Triangle Trade — from Rhode Island to the slave forts of Ghana to the ruins of a family plantation in Cuba — and return home to wrestle with what they found. \nThe film upends a familiar American myth: that slavery was a Southern institution. In fact\, Rhode Island held the largest share of the slave trade of any state\, and the network of banks\, insurers\, textile mills\, and rum distilleries that profited from enslaved labor stretched across the North for generations. Over fifty years\, the DeWolf family alone transported more than ten thousand enslaved Africans across the Middle Passage. \nBut Traces of the Trade is not only a history lesson. It is a deeply personal reckoning — with inherited privilege\, with complicity\, and with the question every generation must answer: What do we do now? \nThe New York Times called it “a far-reaching personal documentary examination of the slave trade… The implications of the film are devastating.” \nThis screening is offered in preparation for The Dean’s Hour on Sunday\, April 26\, when Dain and Constance Perry — facilitators who have led hundreds of screenings and conversations around the film — will join Dean Katz for a live discussion. \nFree and open to all. \nProduced and directed by Katrina Browne. On Sunday\, April 26\, families are invited to attend either the 9 a.m. service or the 1 p.m. service (offered in Spanish). During worship\, we’ll pause to honor our 5th graders with a brief prayer and present them with gifts to mark the occasion. \nFollowing the service\, the newly minted Treehouse students will head upstairs for their very first Sunday School session in their new home. It’s a milestone worth celebrating — and we want your whole family there for it. \nWhether your child has grown up in our pews or is newer to the Cathedral community\, The Climb is a warm and joyful send-off into the next chapter of their journey with God and with us.

That’s The Movable Feast. \nWe begin at 9 a.m. with worship in the Cathedral\, gathering as one family to lift our hearts\, voices\, and prayers together. It’s a warm and welcoming entry point for families with young children just learning the rhythms of Sunday morning. At 10 a.m.\, we move into Formation Hour — Sunday School for children\, youth\, and adults alike. Kids delight in scripture and story; youth and adults deepen their faith in classes geared to where they are. No one leaves the table empty-handed. \nAnd then comes the feast itself. At 11 a.m.\, the Children & Family Ministries Council hosts a lunchtime celebration on the Huffington Playground — tables full of food\, laughter\, and the kind of joyful\, unhurried fellowship that reminds us God’s love is best enjoyed in community. Together we worship\, learn\, and feast\, moving in step with a Spirit who always makes room for one more. \nNo registration required — just show up! Grieving Together is a safe\, compassionate space for anyone navigating the loss of a loved one\, offered right here at Christ Church Cathedral. \nThe group meets on the 4th Sunday of each month from 3:30–5 p.m. in the Bride’s Room\, January through April. Sessions are facilitated by Kay Lynn Jenkins\, LCSW\, who brings more than 20 years of professional experience working with people through grief and loss. This is a peer support group — meaning you’ll be surrounded not only by a skilled guide\, but by others who understand what it means to carry this kind of weight. \nWhether your loss is recent or long-carried\, whether this is your first time seeking support or you’ve been on this journey for a while\, you are welcome here. DESCRIPTION:Some traditions are worth keeping — and May Fête is one that Christ Church Cathedral has been keeping for over 120 years. \nIn the 1890s\, the people of Christ Church decided to launch a spring festival to celebrate youth\, joy\, and faith. What began as a community gathering in the heart of downtown Houston has grown into one of the Cathedral’s most beloved annual occasions — a day when the whole congregation\, across generations and languages\, comes together to celebrate the children in our midst and the God who delights in them. \nThis year’s May Fête begins with a combined bilingual worship service at 10 a.m. in the Cathedral. Following worship\, the festivities move to Reynolds Hall and Huffington Yard for an afternoon of performances\, children’s activities\, games\, and lunch for all. Cherished traditions include the Maypole dance and the crowning of the May Fête royals. There is something for everyone — and every pair of hands is welcome to help make it happen. \nMay Fête is free and open to all.
