Medical Debt Relief Fund
Relieving families of devastating medical debt is in keeping with Jesus’ Gospel mandate, in Matthew 25:36, to tend the sick. Debt due to unexpected injury, illness or chronic disease can cause a cascade of other problems whose effects ripple through families and communities.
The Mission Outreach Council and Justice & Peace Council have joined forces in a joint summer project to help relieve medical debt. Our two councils are partnering with a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit RIP Medical Debt, started by two former collections professionals - that locates, buys and forgives unpaid medical debt. RIP has clear criteria to qualify for debt forgiveness including income well below the poverty level and insolvency.
Our goal is to raise $5,000 which will be matched from the Dean’s Discretionary Fund. If we raise $5,000, the Dean will match $5,000 and we can retire up to $1 million in debt. No gift is too small. The leverage is great.
Please join us where the gift of a little can relieve so much.
