Not Afraid of Virginia Woolf: Reading To the Lighthouse
June 12, 2022 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Sunday, June 12 at 2 p.m. Zoom, Registration Required
One of the greatest writers of the twentieth century, Virginia Woolf transformed the modern novel with her vivid representations of inner life, but this innovative style also caused her, like many Modernist writers, to be considered inaccessible by some readers. Together with scholar Emma Ridder of UCLA, we will challenge that notion. Our first lecture,Not Afraid of Virginia Woolf: Reading To the Lighthouse, will consider Woolf, her historical moment, and her 1927 novel To the Lighthouse, as well as how to approach challenging and/or experimental fiction.
