Earth Day Dean’s Hour with Ed Pettitt

April 21 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

“Nature as God’s Gift: Bridging the Gap for All”

Ed Pettitt, a Graduate Research Assistant at the Bullard Center for Environmental and Climate Justice and the founder of Friends of Columbia Tap, will address environmental injustices and racial disparities in access to nature in the United States. He will emphasize the crucial need for equitable distribution and propose recommendations for creating more outdoor opportunities in marginalized communities and promoting diverse leadership in environmental organizations. His analysis will reveal concerning trends, including communities of color being three times more likely to live in nature-deprived areas. He will also provide examples of ways that regular folks and church parishioners can actively partner with marginalized communities to help bridge the nature gap.
