Love Goes to Costa Rica – Day 5

Love Goes to Costa Rica – Day Five

I have never been more excited to return to Costa Rica and be part of a VBS. The thought of being away from home in some way makes me feel optimistic and excited to experience more things outside of my everyday environment.

This journey represents not just a continuation of past efforts but a deeper integration into the heartbeat of the community.

The first day was full of excitement and joy! One of the kids I recognized from last year is in my group and told me, “Thank you for coming back. I didn’t know when I was going to see you again!” It reminded me of when I was a kid and went to VBS. I would always be so excited to meet new people, see my group leaders again, and learn new things.

I have been blessed with an amazing group of kids, aka HEROES, who are always energized and excited to hear the amazing things about God. They are what, I believe, the heartbeat of the community. Yes, it may be tiring, but it’s also a reward.

Doing a VBS like this takes a village. First, the amazing cooks who make lunch for us every day have shown amazing hospitality and love through everything they cook and serve. Also, the snack crew, shout out to Ms. Karla and our very own Ms. Flo Ray, who has given us grace with our cranky/excited kids running in and grabbing everything.

Our days have been filled with love, sweat, and appreciation for us and the Heroes! Today, we celebrated the Children’s Minister’s birthday, played games, danced, laughed, and truly felt at home.

I must add one more thing: It is hot in Limón. More than the warmth of people is the plus 89-degree weather and humidity.

I am forever grateful for the memories and experiences that we have made here in the amazing country of Costa Rica. I would recommend it 10/10!
