Love Goes to Costa Rica – Day 2
Love Goes to Costa Rica – Day Two
By Marcia Quintanilla
We’re back! It’s amazing to think about how fast we got here. Just yesterday, we were sitting in the cloister talking about The Sharing Tree. Time certainly does fly when you’re having fun.
Our day started with an early wake-up and meet-up at 5 am at the airport. I’m always touched by the way parents say goodbye to their teenagers at the airport before leaving for Costa Rica. Whether it’s a teary goodbye, a very stern “I’m proud of you, son, or a blessing that includes que Dios te bendiga.” They are all meaningful and important to hear and experience before leaving for 10 days to a foreign country. Once we arrived in Costa Rica, our travel didn’t end there. We still had a 4- to 5-hour drive to our final destination, Limon Central.
In the past few months, lay leaders from St. Mark’s Parish in Limon and lay leaders from the Cathedral gathered on Zoom to plan a VBS called Hero Hotline. The theme is focused on striving for justice and building each other up. In retrospect, it also reflects our companionship throughout the years. Our continuous visits and engagements have made it possible for us to know each other, pray together, share ministry together, and have strong connections with one another. We have a mutual understanding of building each other up for the glory of God’s kingdom on earth.
As we embark on another mission trip, I am thinking of a great cloud of witnesses who have loved, prayed for, and supported us to this day. Your witness and support have made it possible for another trip to happen. It is a joy to share the ministry of Costa Rica with you. Pura Vida!
