Love Goes to Costa Rica – Day 1

Love Goes to Costa Rica – Day One
By Elizabeth Cuevas

Home again. Picking up from June 2023, a year has gone by, and here I am again!

I left off with the words, “it is time to dream another dream.” well, at that moment, I felt the dream I had ten years ago had come to an end, and yet it was only the beginning of it. Here I am, June of 2024, and I am Home again. There is something about this place that when I land, I feel wrapped up in God’s arms, like a child coming home to mom. It is a feeling that can not be expressed in words, and my hope is that everyone gets to feel this in their soul at some point in their lives.

This year, I arrived a few days earlier than the mission team to Costa Rica to help prepare our VBS space. A few years ago, the idea of traveling was not something I could even picture happening, and now I was able to travel before our Minister for Youth to help prepare for our Mission. So here’s an example of how we limit our dreams, and then God shows up, breathes life into one dream, and multiplies that dream beyond what we could ever pray or imagine.

Was I nervous to come on my own with Imelda and my son Yannis? Of course. Was I afraid? No, but nervous, yes. Knowing I was coming back to friends I had come to know during the last two missions gave me the courage not to feel afraid. I was returning to friends who were excited to receive me and work together in the mission to teach children the Good News about God’s love.

I will forever want people to know God’s love, especially children whose innocence does not complicate God’s love; they receive it with open arms and a very open heart.

What a gift to be trusted by Marcia for such an important task: Prepping the space for children to learn how to be disciples of God through storytelling, crafts, science, snacks, and recreating the stories told each day. No task is too big or too small for God, so here I am again, obedient to the calling that brings people together to grow stronger in his love and peace. Dream to be continued…
