Olivewood Cemetery Workday November 12

Olivewood Cemetery was opened in 1877 for freed slaves and some of Houston’s prominent black residents.

The Descendants of Olivewood is a non-profit organization that has taken guardianship to care for and preserve the historical significance of Olivewood. All work is done by volunteers.

It has suffered much through flooding and erosion. The “Board” is working diligently to restore this important memorial. The workday will include general yard work, cleanup and maintenance work.

Volunteers can bring their own tools (i.e. weed eaters, rakes, pruners, etc. or use the ones Olivewood has. Bring gloves if you have them. Questions, call Cad Willeford 713-818-5785 or email [email protected] Water and snacks will be provided.
