Love Goes to Costa Rica Day Eight

Costa Rica has been, in many ways, a novel experience. It’s my first time in the country, and I’ve only been with the Cathedral for three weeks. Talk about a leap of faith!
Jokes aside, that’s been much of this trip, and I think I can speak for many of my group mates when I say that. From urgent travel passport appointments two days before we flew out, to rapid changes of daily plans, this group has thrived through it all.

It’s truly incredible to watch everyone grow both individually and in the group over the course of this week.

As we wrap up our stay, I can say, as CeCe Winans sings, that I have lived in the goodness of God. I’ve seen His goodness in our schedules, in our hardworking staff, and from the kids and adults who took the hard work that we did well in stride. I see it in the people we visit at the Centro Educativo San Marcos and the loving way they celebrated Jaylah’s birthday with us. I see it in the workmen in San José Obrero, who patiently showed us over and over again how to work on the walls (and who will probably have to redo the lumpy plaster I put on). I see it in the ladies who made a special to accommodate my dietary preferences and repeatedly make sure that it’s good (it was, in fact, so good that I’ve thought a couple of times about changing my country of residence).

I see it in myself, and the way that I’ve grown as a leader and a Christian during this trip. Join me as I continue to pray for life change, even as we begin to prepare for our return home. The work of the Lord, after all, is not limited by mere days.

Abigail Jeyaraj, also known as AJ, is currently the Youth Intern at the Cathedral and attends the University of Houston as a health major. She splits her time between campus and Sugar Land, where her mom and her dog, Dusty, live. She enjoys playing the piano and reading in her free time (which is very scarce).
