Dear Cathedral Family and Friends,

Yesterday afternoon Governor Abbott announced that, beginning next week, all limitations on openings and gatherings, as well as the state mask mandate, will be rescinded. Almost immediately, I began receiving texts and emails from parishioners inquiring how this will affect our policies on campus at the Cathedral. It is notable that the overwhelming majority have expressed worry that we will back away from health safety protocols rather than hope we will do so.

Please know that at Christ Church Cathedral we operate under the health safety guidelines issued by Bishop Doyle, as well as additional counsel and advice from the leadership of the Texas Medical Center and the Centers for Disease Control. In the near term, I don’t anticipate that our current practices regarding mask-wearing, physical distancing, and worship/event registration limits will change. When they do adjust, it will be the result of guidance provided by those named above. I continue to monitor COVID data daily. I am greatly heartened by current trends in our community, both with regard to decreasing viral levels and the increasing pace of vaccinations. The masking and other protocols we presently observe contribute to these positive trends. Stay safe and well, friends. Lenten blessings to you.

The Very Reverend Barkley Thompson
