A Message from the Dean on Ukraine
Dear Cathedral Family and Friends,
Many across the globe have experienced a mixture of shock, disbelief, anxiety, and sadness since Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24. There is a felt need to respond in some meaningful way, and Cathedral parishioners have reached out to me and asked, “What can we do?” The Cathedral Wardens and I have conferred, and this Sunday, March 13, our 11 a.m. Holy Eucharist will be a service for peace, in solidarity with the people of Ukraine. In place of the usual purple Lenten hangings, we will use our Maryan blue hangings along with yellow sunflowers as the altar flowers. We will have special music and prayers of the people, and our plate offering will go to Episcopal Relief and Development, designated for humanitarian relief in Ukraine. We have invited members of the Ukrainian American community to join us in worship. As always, the 11 a.m. service will be livestreamed.
On Sunday evening at 6:15 p.m. after the Well, Canon Becky Zartman will offer an opportunity for parishioners to gather for a session entitled, “The People and Pain of Ukraine: A Discussion,” which will allow participants to speak whatever lies heavy on their hearts. I hope you will join us this Sunday, in-person or online, as we stand for peace in solidarity with Ukraine. God bless you.
Grace and peace,
The Very Reverend Barkley Thompson
Dean
