Acts in Easter -- A Cathedral-Wide Read

04.08.20 | Youth, Children and Familes, Young Adults, Adult Formation

Acts in Easter is a new way for Cathedral members and friends to engage their faith and stay connected with one another during the fifty days of Eastertide. We will follow a reading plan and prayer practices for Acts of the Apostles throughout the Easter season.

Acts is about how the Holy Spirit forms and shapes Christian community in times of uncertainty.

Watch Noonday Prayer weekdays on Facebook Live at 12:05 p.m., which will be about the Acts reading of the day through May 29, 2020.

    Join a Bible Study

    • Women’s Evening Bible Study on the Acts of the Apostles, Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. (email Canon Zartman for more information)

    • Co-Ed Bible Study with Canon Vicar Callaham Tuesdays at 7 a.m. and Thursdays at noon (email Canon Vicar Callaham for more information), which will also be about Acts

    • Youth can join Evening Bible Study on the Acts of the Apostles, Tuesdays (Seed Group for Middle School) and Wednesdays (Root Group for High School) at 6:30 p.m. (email Marcia Quintanilla for more information)

Play "Spot the Spirit" with these downloadable cutouts for older and younger children so they can see the spirit is with us at home.

During the week of May 24-30

Read Acts 22:30–28:24 -- Bearing Witness In Rome

Try the week's Prayer Practice -- Set apart a quiet time and place to pray each day. Set a timer for at least five minutes. Ask God to be present with you. Spend time reflecting on this question: How is God calling me to bring Good News to others? With whom is God calling me to be in conversation? How is God equipping me to love others? Thank God for the gift of your time together.

Read Acts 16:16-22:29 -- The World Turned Upside Down

Try the week's Prayer Practice -- Set apart a quiet time and place to pray each day. Using a journal, reflect on a time when God was present to you. Name this event, and give thanks for that event. Reflect on the way that it shaped your life. When you are done journaling, give thanks to God for the time you spent together, and ask God to be present with you throughout your day.

During the week of May 10-16

Read Acts 13:1-16:15 -- The Word of the Lord Spread

Try the week's Prayer Practice -- Set apart a quiet time and place to pray each day. Set a timer for at least five minutes. Settle into a comfortable position, and ask God to be with you. Take three big breaths in and out, and then listen in silence to God. If you are distracted, focus on your breathing until you can quiet yourself again, and continue listening. At the end of your time, slowly pray the Lord’s Prayer.

During the week of April 19-25

    Read Acts 1-4:31 -- A Violent Wind

Try the week's Prayer Practice -- Set apart a quiet time and place to pray each day. Set a timer for at least five minutes. Ask God to be with you while you pray. As you inhale, pray, “Spirit of the Living God,” and as you exhale, pray, “Fall afresh on me.” Allow yourself to sink into the prayer; if you are distracted, acknowledge the distraction and just start praying again. At the end of your time, talk to God about how that went. Give thanks for your time together, and say, “Amen.”
